There are a number of drivers who will be lining up on the grid at Brands Hatch who will be making their BTCC debuts. I’ll be doing a rundown on those who have already been confirmed. We start with… Jack Goff.
Goff, 21, first joined the BTCC-supporting TOCA package in 2010, when he drove in the Renault Clio Cup for Team Pyro. He received the seat after comparing well to eventual 2010 champion Dave Newsham in pre-season testing. He finished the season strongly, taking his best result of the season, 4th, in the final round of the season at Brands Hatch, on his way to 8th in the overall standings. He continued with the team in 2011, taking his first Clio Cup win at Oulton Park. He later went to take both race wins at Rockingham, and finished 5th in the standings. 2012 was Goff’s year, taking the Clio Cup title. He may have only won 2 races all season, but consistency, as it so often proves, was the key. He finished in the top 5 in all but 2 races all season.
So, for 2013, Jack will go a step up from the Clio’s, and will line up on the BTCC grid in a NGTC-spec Vauxhall Insignia, run by former Porsche racer Tony Gilham’s Team HARD. The team doesn’t have a lot of racing experience with the car, but there’s plenty to suggest that Goff will be one to watch as the season goes on. History is on his his side too, because other former Clio Cup champions & winners, like Tom Onslow-Cole, Dave Newsham and Aron Smith, have all gone on to stand on the top step of a BTCC podium.
